WE HAVE MOVED!

Val Cansick Studio is now fully online and our face to face teaching facility at Halls Green is closed. Our new online subscription site is on Patreon, and we will be announcing the ‘going-live’ date soon. This is not to say we will never hold face to face events again, far from it, but our standard skills training has been made accessible online on the Patreon platform in a format that beginners and improvers can follow in whatever way that suits you best.

Periodically we will also run one-off live online events, where we take a deeper dive into a particular aspect of drawing or painting, looking at specific topics and ‘how to’ sessions to give you an opportunity to investigate more advanced skills, either verbally or visually. We will also be having a quarterly ‘Art Clinic’ when you can bring along a piece of work for critique, or simply talk about any painting or drawing issues you are struggling with. It may be colour mixing, more about materials and how to use them, or the challenges of landscape or portrait painting, or what you need to do to switch from one medium to another; whatever it may be you can bring your questions and queries to the ‘Art Clinic’.

On this website, you will still be able to buy art work and gift vouchers to use on any live events either on line or face to face sessions and these will be listed on our news page in good time before the events. We were sad to leave our beautiful ‘live’ studio in North Hertfordshire, and I want to thank everyone who used the facility on a regular basis. It was a great place to meet, paint and socialise and I am grateful for the time we had there and the kindness shown by the Hale family, owners of Fairclough Hall Farm in Weston. I would like to thank all of my class attendees for their loyal following and incredible support pre- and post-Covid. The social and tuition interaction of what we did together proved to me how beneficial it was not only for the lessons, but for the friendships and mental wellbeing the whole thing evoked. I remain committed to live workshops and courses in the coming years, some will be online and some will be face to face events that will take place at venues in Hertfordshire, the South West in Devon and Cornwall and we will be adding other areas within these regions depending on demand. The numbers will be limited to 6 people face to face, and two to four people online. Our news page will keep you updated. Some of the exciting changes coming up will I hope provide a resource for both practical and motivational use at home, and these will be a mix of PDF notes and tips, with video demonstrations that can be followed by watching them online as often as you want to, then having a go and practicing the techniques. Some of these sessions will also be preparation for joining any of the painting events you can enrol in later to pull together what you learn online.

As you will see from the amendments to this website, you will also be able to book one to one tuition, or simply have a critique and guidance session via video link and connect with me live for however long you want to book. Everything is reasonably priced and the small one to one or two to one sessions will enable you to see any demonstrations close up and ask questions live. If you are happy to join such a session with a friend, the maximum is two people so that you each get full attention. To find out more, take a wander around our lovely new updated website to see how to book. I moved to the South West partly to be nearer my brother now he is retired and I am glad to say that my new studio is now up and running, from where I will be doing most of the online demonstrations and live sessions. The live regional events will be limited to 6 people. If you belong to a small painting club you can also book me to attend for a one off workshop or you can book one of our group booking events – check our newsletter, Facebook page or Instagram page regularly.

With best wishes, Val
