Develop Your Art Skills At Our Half Day Workshops

Our friendly regular sessions are between 2 and 3 hours, and will give you flexibility to attend weekly or ‘now and then’, or come along to one of our taster sessions to discover what medium suits you best.

Half-Day Workshops: £25 per Person (3 Hours)

These are perfect for when you are a complete beginner or want to change to a different medium without having to invest in materials you may or may not use. All materials are included in the workshops.

Our beginner and improver classes in water colour are managed by Peter Massey, an experienced water colourist and oil painter. He takes you through the basics at a comfortable pace and helps you to gain confidence with this medium, ending with a finished starter painting to take home and keep for reference.

An ideal way to start, our beginners’ workshops give you a refreshing insight to art or boost your creativity at times when you struggle to 'get going'!  Peter’s regular follow-up evening class allows you to follow a set exercise each session, to build on the skills you’ve learned in your workshop.

Many of Peter’s students are regulars who enjoy the social aspect of the group. Please note that numbers are strictly limited to ensure you get enough assistance with your work. The evening class is now a morning class every other Saturday over the winter months from September through to next March

Other  Half Day subjects are taught by

Sharon Green, (Portraits in Pastel)

Judy Bywater,  (Acrylic Painting )

Val Cansick,  (Drawing & Painting, Most mediums)

Evening Classes

We do not run evening classes during the months of September through to March, so watch for new announcements in the New Year for the following Spring

Taster Sessions: £25 per Person (3 Hours)

Available for more experienced artists, both professional and amateur, we give you the opportunity to try out a new medium in more depth and in your own style of painting if you have a method of your own already.

Val Cansick is the tutor for these sessions, but she may also use other professional or highly competent experienced painters if fully booked. You don’t need to spend too much time on the basics of painting other than for the new medium, and a 3-hour session then allows you to attain a level of understanding of the materials to then go away and experiment for yourself.

Course notes are provided to take away with you along with a list of suppliers and recommended makes of paint to support the quality you hope to achieve.

Half-Day Workshops: £25 per Person (3 Hours)

These are perfect for when you are a complete beginner or want to change to a different medium without having to invest in materials you may or may not use. All materials are included in the workshops.

Drop In Surgery Sessions - £20 for 2 hours, £15 for 1 hour

You can arrange to call in at the studio for a ‘surgery’ on your drawing or painting and discuss with Val how you want to improve or just get a critique and some impromptu practice in your chosen medium. Often people simply want a few words of advice or encouragement and if you only need half an hour to discuss your work or seek advice on a specific problem with your artwork, then there will be no charge for this. Please remember to call us first however, in case we have courses running. A firm session booking in advance gives you a maximum of 2 hours where more help is needed, and includes any materials used to demonstrate how to solve a particular problem.
